If air accumulates in the pipes of a horizontal centrifugal pump during operation, it will affect the normal operation of the pump. So, how do you remove air from the pipes of a horizontal centrifugal pump?

  I. Causes of Air Accumulation in Horizontal Centrifugal Pump Pipes

  1. Inadequate Air Venting During Installation: If the pipe connections are not tight during the installation of the horizontal centrifugal pump, or if sufficient air venting is not performed during pipe installation, air may accumulate in the pipes.

  2. Air Entering During Pump Start-up: When the horizontal centrifugal pump starts, air may enter the piping system because the gas in the pump chamber cannot be expelled in time.

  3. Inadequate Piping Design: If the inlet and outlet pipes of the horizontal centrifugal pump are poorly designed, such as with bends or changes in pipe diameter, air may not flow smoothly, leading to the formation of air pockets.

II. Methods for Removing Air from Pipes of Horizontal Centrifugal Pumps

  1. Self-priming Start: For newly installed or overhauled horizontal centrifugal pumps, a self-priming start method can be used. The pump body fills with liquid before startup, automatically removing air from the pipes. The specific operation method is: fix the pump body to the ground, then open the inlet valve, allowing liquid to flow along the pump body to the outlet valve. Once the pump body is full of liquid, close both the inlet and outlet valves and restart the pump.

  2. Air Source Priming Method: Use an air source to provide compressed air to the pump. Inject the compressed air into the pump body through a pipeline, thereby expelling air from the pipes. The specific operation method is: install an air source and a pressure gauge on the pump's inlet pipeline. Monitor the pressure of the air source using the pressure gauge. When the pressure reaches the set value, open the air source valve to inject compressed air into the pump body.

  3. Mechanical Exhaust Method: Use a mechanical method to remove air from the pipes of the horizontal centrifugal pump. The specific operation method is: install an air chamber on the pump's inlet pipeline. When the pressure in the air chamber reaches the set value, open the valve to allow air to enter the pump body. Once the pump body is filled with liquid, close the valve to expel the air.

  III. Precautions

  1. When installing a horizontal centrifugal pump, ensure that the pipeline connections are tight to prevent air from entering the pipeline.

  2. Before starting the horizontal centrifugal pump, check that all parts are installed correctly to ensure the pump can start normally.

  3. During daily operation, regularly check the inlet and outlet pipelines of the horizontal centrifugal pump and address any problems promptly.

In summary, there are many methods to remove air from the pipelines of a horizontal centrifugal pump. Choose the appropriate method based on the actual situation. At the same time, strengthen the maintenance and upkeep of the horizontal centrifugal pump to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.
